Giovanni – Visiting Marie-Curie PhD student!

We are pleased to welcome a new member to the lab: Giovanni Berluti!

Giovanni is a PhD student funded through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Double Doctorate Fellowship D-CARBONIZE. In 2023, he started his PhD at the University of Groningen (main institution, The Netherlands) under the supervision of Prof. Paolo Pescarmona. In 2025, he continued his research at POLYKEY (University of the Basque Country, second institution, Spain) under the supervision of Dr. Coralie Jehanno.

His research focuses on the synthesis of novel renewable cyclic carbonate monomers and polymers, combining bio-derived feedstocks with CO2 utilisation technologies to develop renewable thermosets in the context of non-isocyanate poly(hydroxyurethane)s for adhesives and coatings.

As part of his fellowship, Giovanni will undertake a three-month secondment at CiTOS, where he will investigate the transition of the one-pot conversion of alkanes and CO2 to cyclic carbonates from batch to continuous flow conditions.

Welcome to the team, Giovanni! We are looking forward to having you with us and to following your work at CiTOS!
